1- Enable students to reflect critically on the economic dimension of environmental problems and their solutions. 2- Understand the role of institutions to modify economic incentives leading to environmental problems. Learning outcomes (competences) - Comprehend the relevance of economic incentives and resulting social dilemmas for the emergence of environmental problems. - Understand the socio-ecological approach to environmental problems with a particular focus on economic incentives. - Analyze from an economic perspective success and failure case studies for solving environmental problems. - Compile factors that increase the possibility of users of natural resources to solve the social dilemmas they face. - Discuss the economic implications of relevant topics in the environmental policy agenda of different countries (developed and developing countries). - Identify economic motivations for the positions of different stakeholders in environmental conflicts. - Defend and justify articulated arguments regarding environmental problems and possible solutions making use of diverse economic methodologies. - Respond creatively to stake economic arguments in environmental problems. - Develop research reports on the economic aspects of environmental problems.

Lectures

Individual report between 5000 and 6000 words on the economic aspects of a specific environmental problem. Concision, creative thinking and critical analysis will be positively valued.
