Performing Domesticities

In this seminar we will depart from the understanding of architecture as the spatial manifestation of social relations and constructs. An interwoven web of bodies, spaces and identities, where bodies are performing architecture and architecture is performing bodies. More specifically, we will be looking into the performance of everyday life within constructed and assigned architectures, examining how domestic spaces influence our lives, dictate how we spend time, and impact the way we operate.Through readings, discussion and a practical workshop/exercise, we will explore alternative visions of domestic life from the mid-nineteenth century to the present through the lens of cultural politics, gender, and sexuality.

The seminar includes a syllabus with selected texts, two rounds of discussion, a lecture by an invited guest and a ‘reflection-in-action’¹ two-day workshop.
