In this course, students will develop a good understanding of the major aspects of societal and individual bilingualism/multilingualism.
The course provides an introduction to the sociopsychological, structural, and psycholinguistics aspects of bilingualism. The topics treated in the course include:
1. Language maintenance and shift
2. Language attitudes and ideologies
3. Social motivations of language use and intercultural communication
4. Lexical and grammatical borrowing
5. Implicit and explicit language learning
6. Cognitive aspects of bilingualism
This is a course with continuous assessment. The credit point requirements for this course include:
1. 100% attendance and active participation in in-class discussions.
2. Delivering a group presentation in the form of a radio broadcast.
3. Writing a research summary.
