The course provides an in-depth discussion of key concepts of microeconomic theory. Students will acquire a working-knowledge of these concepts and techniques such that main branches of the contemporary literature on microeconomic theory will become accessible.
Focusing on individual decision making and equilibrium theory, central theoretical concepts and proof techniques of modern microeconomics will be discussed and applied. Topics discussed in the first part of the course include preferences and utility, consumer choice, production, and expected utility theory. In the second part of the course, an in-depth treatment of perfect competition, general equilibrium and welfare, existence and uniqueness of general equilibrium is provided.
