A number of questions arise about this important sphere of life such as: What are the factors that make this an interesting and pleasant experience? What are some potential pitfalls? What can I do to be a success? What situational and environmental factors influence my work experience?
The objective of this course is to provide students with a good understanding of the basic principles of human behavior that effective managers use when managing individuals and groups in organizations. After completing this course students should be able to:
‐ Recognize, define, and discuss the terminology, concepts, principles, and
theories covered.
‐ Identify and apply appropriate terminology, concepts, principles, and theories from the course when analyzing factual situations with organizational behavior problems.
‐ Develop reasonable solutions to organizational behavior problems using appropriate terminology, concepts, principles, and theories from the course.
‐ Evaluate the quality of their proposed solutions to organizational behavior problems against appropriate criteria, including organizational constraints.
‐ Discuss the relevance and application of the concepts, principles, and theories used in organizational behavior to contemporary events.
‐ Identify and discuss the interrelationships among the concepts, principles, and theories used in the different areas of organizational behavior, and
‐ Will have produced an individual paper on an OB topic.
‐ Approaches for understanding and managing the behavior of people in the workplace
‐ Basics of and trends impacting OB
‐ Organizational justice and ethics
‐ Processes of perception and learning
‐ Individual differences and personality
‐ Emotions, stress, attitudes, and motivation in the workplace
‐ Groups and team work
‐ Communication
‐ Decision making
‐ Conflict, negotiation, power
‐ Leadership
Lectures, in-class exercises (e.g., case analyses, debates, simulations), short presentations by students
two exams
