Erwerb von Fertigkeiten im kritischen Umgang mit historischen Quellen und Darstellungen der Österreichischen Geschichte sowie der Kompetenz, das neu erworbene Wissen in mündlicher und schriftlicher Form zu präsentieren.

This course focuses on working with sources in the field of the environmental history of Central Europe in the Early Modern Period. Students analyse a selection of manuscripts, maps and pictorial representations, dealing with historical climatology, water history, the history of natural hazards, the history of forests and grasslands. Students' work is mentored. They present the contents of the sources in a broader environmental and general historical context on the basis of their own analysis, consultations with the professor, and a combination of lectures and group discussions during regular meetings. Students submit presentations synthesizing the contents of the source they analysed, embedded in the broader historical context. The territorial focus of the sources is on the south-east of the Habsburg hereditary lands. An oral exam follows in the end of the semester.
